If there is something that has become trend in decoration, fashion or gastronomy, is the contrast and the mixture. The communications revolution in recent years makes it possible for collaborations and influences between very different countries and cultures to flow and the results achieved are wonderful.
On this occasion the mix unites Spain with China. He ESTUDI JOSEP CORTINA has designed the new restaurant Plato86 in Hong Kong, in front of whose stove is the prestigious international chef Alvin Leung. The restaurant, located in the central Wan Chai district, has a sophisticated Mediterranean inspiration that reinterprets the spirit of the beach bar and elevates it to haute cuisine, according to Leung's gastronomic proposal.
Josep Cortina, in the image on these lines next to the builder David Sung, has a very synthetic vision, regarding the use of simple and straight forms, and the use of living materials and organic textures. For this project he chose the beach bar as a source of inspiration for being an iconic element of the restoration in the Mediterranean.
The design of the Plato 86 restaurant was launched at the end of March and was designed entirely in the ESTUDI JOSEP CORTINA. The artist Alexandra Illa has taken care of all the illustrations and paintings of the new establishment, inspired by the Mediterranean maritime flora and fauna.
They have opted for a sober and fresh design, inspired by Mediterranean life, honest materials and the covers of branches that filter the light cast shadows that generate a feeling of inside and outside. The iconic menorcan window It is also a main element of the design, generating a complex set of structures that take us to an outdoor terrace.
Of course the contrast of such a restaurant in the middle of Hong Kong is very curious, a different experience for those of us who love to try original restaurants and, above all, the solution for Spaniards settled in China with a "morriña" attack.
